4 Sure-fire (And Free) Inbound Linking Strategies

Getting other websites to link to yours is one of the most time-consuming and essential tasks that any Internet marketer must face. Linking campaigns can be boring, repetitive, and, if done correctly, incredibly successful!

Within the Internet marketing world we call these links to our websites "Inbound Links", and they are important to your website for two reasons:

1. Inbound links bring traffic – whenever a website has a link to yours, a certain percentage of their traffic will visit your website. The amount of traffic each link generates is usually quite small, but as you build more and more links, the number of visitors can become significant.

2. Inbound links increase search engine awareness – the more links the big 3 search engines (Google, Yahoo, and MSN) see pointing to your site on the Internet, the more important they assume your website is. A website that has 10,000 inbound links will typically be ranked higher for it’s keywords than a site with only 20 inbound links.

There are many ways to get inbound links. Some cost money, and some are more effective than others. Following are 4 sure-fire methods of getting zero-cost inbound links. Implementing these will certainly help to improve traffic to your website.

Submit to Website Directories

Whenever I launch a new website, the first thing I do is register it on the web directories. Now, there are thousands of directories on the Internet, but only about 250 actually get traffic and count from a search engine optimization standpoint. Compiling the list was a painstaking process, but now that we have it, we’re able to really boost a new website into Google’s index pretty quickly.

You can submit your website to the free web directories, or you can have a service do it for you for. I will tell you that it is a boring and repetitive process to do yourself, and can take several days to a week to do 250 submissions.

Some web directories will offer enhanced listings for a small fee (usually under $20). These enhancements can be worth the money if you feel pretty sure your website will get valuable exposure or additional ad space included in the deal.

A few good website directories are: http://www.profitchoice.com/webdir (ours), http://www.dmoz.org (open directory project), and http://www.buzzle.com.

Submit Content to Article Directories

If you produce an online newsletter, then a really great way to get more exposure for your website is to submit your articles to online article directories. This process can be monotonous, but well worth the effort. Over time, I have compiled a list of about 100 article directories that do a good job of providing SEO-friendly links and decent turn-around time on their review cycles.

When you write an article for the article directories, you want to make sure that it is informative and newsworthy. Sales pitches are usually discarded before they are published, so make sure your content is valuable to a website publisher before you take the time to submit it. A couple good article directories are http://www.ezinearticles.com and http://www.goarticles.com.

RSS Feeds and Blogs

In addition to submitting your articles to article directories, why not create an RSS feed out of it as well? In addition to article syndication, Blogs are another form of content syndication that uses essentially the same format for distributing your content on other websites.

Once your feed is listed on the distribution sites, they will rescan your feed every few days and update the information in their databases. The beauty of RSS is that you don’t have to resubmit every time you add a new article.

A great piece of software that I use is called Feedforall (http://www.feedforall.com/). It helps you to create your RSS feed. All you have to do is paste your article information into the system, and it generates the XML for you. Last I checked, they have a free trial and the software costs about $40 to buy.

Your RSS feed can be distributed through a number of distribution sites. A few to get you started are: http://www.feedburner.com, http://www.syndic8.com, http://www.completerss.com.

Press Releases

One of my favorite methods of generating traffic to a website is through the use of press releases. Press releases can be free to create and distribute, and if a major media outlet picks them up, you can get a ton of traffic pushed into your site very quickly.

It is not unusual at all for a typical well-written press release to be picked up by hundreds or even thousands of other websites. The trick is to put out press releases regularly and make sure each one is newsworthy.

A great place to start is PRWeb’s website (http://www.prweb.com). They offer a free distribution service, or you can pay extra for their enhanced service that gets you better exposure to the search engines.

Getting Inbound Links Is Easy

In short, getting good quality inbound links to your site is pretty easy to do if you focus your efforts on activities that are most likely to succeed. Submitting your website and article content to directories and syndication services is an easy way to get links placed on thousands of websites very quickly.

4 of the Top 5 Search Engine Benefits to Article Marketing

You've probably heard by now that article marketing can help you build links back to your site.

But there's a lot more to it than that. Articles aren't only good for leveraging yourself stronger positions in Google, Yahoo, MSN and the other big search engines, though that's what we'll be focusing on today. Keep in mind that learning a more balanced view of promotion and marketing with articles can help you reap all the perks with essentially the same amount of work.

For now, let's start with four of the top five search engine benefits.

1- The One-Way Link of a Resource Box backlink is More Powerful.

A link from a site that you're not linked back to has more value than one where you may be required to link back to, simply because changes in the way search engines rank sites now include an adjustment for exchanged links.

The logic is that this would make the voting power of a link that points in one direction weigh more heavily than one that is traded. In theory, this makes it easier for sites that have earned link popularity to get more credit than those who have bought or traded for it.

Of course, over time, this effect may be adjusted and partially dampened so that articles that are just being submitted to resources with no editorial process will count less than those that don't undergo this process. So make sure you're not submitting junk content for the purpose of linking alone.

2- Article Resource Box Links Back to You Are Relevant

If you write articles that stay on the topic of your site, the page where your article appears is more effective as a page that links back because it is more relevant. Again, depending on the search engine, the more topical the environment where you are linked, the more credit your site gets for the link itself, particularly if you're submitting to an online directory which allows you to make better use of linking.

There are a few little changes you can make that will make your links and articles more topically relevant than 90% of other articles, merely because other authors don't think to balance the search engine benefits of article promotion with its value as content, rather than favoring one or the other.

3- Many of Your Articles Appear on Pages with High Google PR

If you take a look at your Google Site Information page, you'll probably notice that Google seems to pick up only sites that have high page rank under the listing for sites that link to you.

Then, of course all the sites that use the text of your site URL, hyperlinked or not, can be found under the last setting for sites that contain your link.

Google Page Rank is typically not something to get in a frenzy over, but it does have an importance that can affect your bottom line for two main reasons.

First, on the occasions that Google Page Rank can help you get better search engine positioning, the process of being linked from these sites can help bring you more targeted traffic, which can lead to more sales. Again, this has to be part of an overall strategy, not your sole reason for submitting articles.

Second, if links from sites with higher page rank get are being spidered more frequently than your site, your link on these sites can also get crawled faster. If you have unique content on your site, this can give you a competitive edge when your content gets included more rapidly.

4- These links back to your site are permanent.

That means that instead of buying a link on a site that appears there for three months and disappears, you are getting a free, topically relevant link pointing back to your site that may be archived, but not dropped.

Over time, if you submit articles on a regular schedule, each effort towards publication is building on previous exposure, helping you brand yourself and your company, as well as build a strong link campaign pointing back towards your site that is free.

As the quality of your articles improve, you can also get qualified leads from the process, an increase in traffic and sales, and publication in resources who have stronger brands than you do, which you may then leverage for additional exposure.

Just remember, the search engine benefits of promoting your site with articles represent only the tip of the iceberg. With articles you can also brand yourself, use your knowledge to establish yourself as an expert, network, develop relationships and increase your leads, sales and traffic.

Seo "Go-To Guy" Reveals All His Traffic Secrets!

Keith Baxter is well known among top Internet Marketers as the hands-down Internet Traffic expert. He’s considered the “go-to” guy when you want hoards of visitors to your site. Many use Keith’s techniques to cause a “traffic jam” of visitors. He’s just launched a site to help others do the same.

In a shady cyber-world of “gurus” whose fortunes are mostly smoke and mirrors – Keith is a bona-fide expert who rakes in a mind boggling income (I calculate he pulls in over $20,000 every month from just two ventures.) who really wants to help others succeed as well. Recently he graciously agreed to an interview.

AH: Keith, thank you for this chance to “pick your brain”. You’ve been very active in the past couple of months…releasing not one but two new sites. One is a huge success already and the second promises to be even bigger. Before we touch on those…what got you started in Internet Marketing?

KB: As silly as it sounds, I’ve run my own businesses since I was 13. Everything from computerized dieting systems to gas boosters. I was ‘online’ since the BBS days, but it didn’t occur to me it could be an incredible marketing medium until 1998. Since then, I’ve launched countless sites. Some were HUGE, while others failed miserably. In fact, I would estimate only 1 in 10 received moderate success while 1 in 50 “made it”. Yes, I’ve launched well over 50 sites. It wasn’t until 2003 that I began marketing to other marketers. I still run (I say ‘I’, but I hired others to run them) several profitable sites outside of marketing. You would be surprised at what can sell online!

AH: How long did it take you before you felt you were successful?

JKB: When my baby was born… that’s when I felt successful

As far as success in business… that’s a constant road I strive to drive down. If I stopped now and said, “I’m Successful!” chances are it would all come crumbling down.

AH: What was your personal benchmark for success?

KB: Hmm, I guess if we are strictly speaking about business, success would be when I would no longer need to do anything but sip pina coladas on my own private island ;-)

AH: What made you focus on Search Engine Optimization?

KB: Years ago, I found that making 1 small change on my website made such a huge difference in the search engines (and as a result… traffic), that I found myself tweaking, tweaking, learning, and tweaking some more. Over time, as SEO developed, I just kept up and kept tweaking. I would (and still do) monitor my results often.

AH: So you learned the hard way what works and what doesn’t? Are there a lot of techniques available that aren’t well known?

KB: There are… but they aren’t what you think. In many cases they are obvious tactics, but few seem to pick up and implement them. Most often, it’s just thinking outside the box and asking yourself, “I wonder what would happen if I tried this…”

AH: Say I had a mini-site selling one product – if I only used your Stealth Traffic Secrets properly – how much traffic could I expect to get?

KB: There are WAYYY to many factors to determine that. With the tactics you will learn from the newsletter, you will be given an edge and a path to follow. You will see into my way of thinking and be able to do much of what I do. With that said, I believe you will be armed with enough information to beat your competition.

AH: And how long should it take to get that kind of traffic?

KB: I begin to see traffic from my efforts within 2 days (sometimes MUCH sooner) and you will too if you implement my suggestions.

AH: Wow. How can my readers find out more about Stealth Traffic Secrets?

KB: Visit http://tinyurl.com/6myu4.

AH: Briefly, tell me about your other recent smashing success…TopKeywordLists.com (http://tinyurl.com/6hvgp). What is it, what can I do with it, and how can I get it?

KB: Sure, each week I provide my members 25 hot markets and completely research keyword lists to go along with those markets. It’s a great service that’s helping members make a LOT of money.

AH: Will you offer a special deal for my readers?

KB: You can view the first video absolutely free at http://tinyurl.com/57l7n.

Thank you Keith for this exciting glimpse into your world. I’m sure others will find your example as inspiring as I have.

Domain And Page Naming Tricks For Better SEO Results

If you have even a passing interest in the topic of SEO, then you should take a look at the following information. This enlightening article presents some of the latest news on the subject of SEO.

The importance of domain and page naming is obvious, but you might not have realized the connection to SEO. We all know that unless our domain name is highly recognizable and memorable then we won’t get many customers, but good domain names also matter when it comes to search engine rankings – the more relevant your domain is to your keywords, the higher it will be ranked.

Domain names are not that difficult to come by at this point. http://Godaddy.com puts out some great prices and they run all sorts of specials once you become a customer. The more domains that you buy the more that they like you. The basic concept here is that people who buy a few domain names are probably going to become pretty big on the internet. The more that you own the more powerful you are. Domain names are like land in the early eighteenth century. They are valuable and the owners become a sort of elite class on the internet.

The value of domains is difficult to determine until you have purchased one and worked with it for a while. The difference between owning your own domain name and hosting your site on a sub domain or in a subdirectory of a domain is huge. The impact on your ability to perform SEO operations increases drastically simply by the ease of clarifying your URL for the search engines and directories that you submit to.

There are even directories out there that do not except anything except for domains. These are the kind of elitist sites that I described earlier. Domain names are the only way to go if you want to have a seriously successful website that becomes a household name. Directories that do not allow non-domain names are there to protect an investment. If you have spent money on purchasing and hosting a domain name you probably aren’t to excited about seeing sites that haven’t dropped a dime on investment being rated above you. This is a sort of aristecratic mind set, but it is a natural tendency of the mind. There are plenty of directories out there that everybody is able to access, but there are some out there that are only for the elite sites of the internet.

If your SEO facts are out-of-date, how will that affect your actions and decisions? Make certain you don't let important SEO information slip by you.

This elitist attitude towards domain names is beneficial to your sites because it allows you to get an edge on other sites simply by buying a domain name. This investment is the most crucial SEO investment that you can make. There are very few sites around that get huge numbers of hits (10,000+ per month) without having their own domain name.

So what do you need to do to get these good rankings? Start off by choosing a domain that matches your website well, and you’re killing two birds with one stone. Your domain name and URL should reflect what you’re trying to accomplish from your site. For example: calling your website ‘thewebcorporation.com’ isn’t much good if it sells hot sauce. For hot sauce, http://deserthotsauce.com would be a better name – the desert’s hot, like the sauce! Don’t settle for anything that won’t make people want to come to your site. Using the name of your company for your domain name is also a good way to go. This is the fastest way of providing a good, quality description of what the visitor is going to. Many visitors will actually consider your domain name the name of your company anyway so you might as well name yourself something that you want to be called.

Most webmasters settle for safe, can't-go-wrong http://www.myname.com domains, because it takes time to be creative and think up good names that contain your keywords. You might consider getting some help from the people around you, as you never know what they might be thinking that could be great. You need to come up with a few ideas in case some are taken – you’ll be surprised just how many domains have gone.

Everyone always wants a .com, but you shouldn’t rule out .net, .org, .us and the rest. For example, if http://deserthotsauce.com is taken, you might find that people like http://deserthotsauce.us just as much.

You can't predict when knowing something extra about SEO will come in handy. If you learned anything new about &keyword% in this article, you should file the article where you can find it again.

Solutions for 50 Backlinks with PageRank greater than 2

Today, no one can deny the importance of backlinks in Search Engine Optimization, especially in Google Optimization. In this article, you can find some solutions for the goal of 50 backlinks with PageRank greater than 2 for new websites. When this goal is archived, I'm totally sure that the pagerank of your website will be boosted to at least 3 in the next update of Google.

There are two main solutions for this goal:

- Finding links on our own, not spending money.

- Buying text links (backlinks).

1. Finding links on our own, not spending money

*Methods in this solution include:

- Find relevant, quality websites and request for link exchanges.

- Submit to quality directories.

- Submit testimonials on websites where you have purchased any services or products.

- Write articles or posts to submit to other websites, blogs, press and forums.

*Pros in this solution:

- No money.

- Robust, stationary links.

- Accepted by search engines.

*Cons in this solution:

- More time and efforts.

- Two-way links (reciprocal links).

- Difficult to determine the time to achieve goal.

*References for this solution:

- Link Exchange programs: linkalizer.com, linkmarket.net, freelinkcentral.com

- Automatic link exchange programs: belinked.info, onewaytextlinks.com, build-reciprocal-links.com, linkdash.com

- Quality Directories: businesspages.org, a2z-free.com, alphabiz.org

- Article Directories: goarticles.com, articlealley.com, article99.com, ezinearticles.com

*Tips:

- You can find more sites for link exchange from studying your competitors' link popularity. Use search engines to perform this check, the keyword in many cases is: link:your_competitor_url.

- When visiting some directories, pay attention to Directory category. You may find the others directories there. For example, in Directory category of businesspages.org, you can find some other good Australian directories.

*Estimated time: 2 months

2. Buying text links

*Methods in this solution include:

- Buy text links (backlinks) directly from sites (in case they don't accept link exchanges)

- Buy text links from text link brokers.

- Buy text links from link auction sites.

- Pay fee to be included in big, quality directories (Yahoo, Overture, LookSmart...)

*Pros in this solution:

- Less time and efforts to get links.

- One-way links (better than reciprocal links)

*Cons in this solution

- Money. We must pay fee every month (or year) for some links.

- Buying text links (many in the same time) from text link brokers isn't encouraged by search engines. They can penalize us.

- Some links are volatile (not permanent).

*References for this solution:

- Advertising on sites: iwebtool.com/pagerank_checker (PR5 - $10.00 per month)

- Text link brokers: textlinkbrokers.com (5 Permanent Links PR0 – PR4: $175 /month), textlinkpopularity.com (10 Links from PR 3 Pages: $150 - Pay only once for permanent links - no recurring charges)

- Link auction sites: linkadage.com

- Big, quality directories: Yahoo! Directory (1 link - $299/year - your site will be reviewed first)

*Tips:

- When buying links from brokers, be sure that you can preview the pages in which your link will be included. Besides the PageRank, there are other factors to take into consideration such as: relevant links in this page, how many links in that page, whether your link is static, ...

*Estimated time: 1 week (some directories need more time to review our request)

3. Conclusion:

It seems that the goal of 50 backlinks with PageRank greater than 2 for new websites is not an easy one. Improving link popularity is a long, patient but obligatory process. It's up to you to decide which solution is better or the combination of these two ones.

SEO - General Guidelines

SEO is an acronym for Search Engine Optimizing and refers to a set of good practices that teach you how to improve your website so that it would be easily tracked, indexed and ranked by search engines. Getting your site indexed by Google and other major search engines will help you attract visitors and increase traffic.

SEO is an exciting and ongoing process that involves not only an initial optimized website, but also permanent maintenance and evaluating search results on a regular basis. With the ever-changing Internet technology, SEO experts sometimes have contrasting opinions on what makes a good website. However, there are some general guidelines most of them agree on.

Design & Content

• You should build your web pages for human beings and not for search engines. A clean design and a strong content will ultimately drive search engine spiders to your site.
• Make a clear hierarchy and provide text links to each page.
• Don't put to many links on a single page (maximum 100).
• You should include a site map to help users navigate easily through your website.
• Make sure you have clear TITLE tags, no HTML errors and all the links work.
• You should use text instead of images to display important elements, as search engine crawlers may not recognize a text inside an image.
• While keeping your content useful and clear, do use keywords that you know users would type to get to your page.

Technical Issues
• Most search engine crawlers see your website similar to the way a text browser sees it. Consequently, you should use a text browser, such as Lynx, to check your website. If you can't see the whole page because of JavaScript, session IDs, DHTML or Flash features, search engine spiders will probably have trouble with crawling your website.
• Check with your web host to see if the server supports the If-Modified-Since HTTP header. This header tells Google whether the website content has changed since its last visit.
• While it is advised session IDs to track visitors' path through the website, you shouldn't do this for search bots.
• The robots.txt file on your web server tells spiders which directories can be crawled and which cannot. Make sure it's updated and it doesn't somehow block search engine crawlers.

Website Promotion

• After you've built your website and put it online, try to get high PageRank sites link to it.
• Submit your website to major search engines (Google, Yahoo/Altavista, MSN) to get it indexed, along with a site map that will tell them the site structure.
• Submit your website to relevant directories, such as Yahoo and Open Directory Project.
• Get involved in community based websites, blogs and forums and build a strong reputation.

Whether you choose to implement these techniques yourself or go to a SEO expert, no one can guarantee a #1 ranking on Google and other search engines. Search engines change their crawling algorithms often and competitor websites appear all the time. However, following these basic SEO guidelines will improve your chances of increasing your website traffic and is a better practice than looking for a way to cheat on search engines in order to get your pages indexed.

Search Engine Optimization History

Webmasters today spend quite some time optimizing their websites for search engines. Books have been written about search engine optimization and some sort of industry has developed to offer search engine optimization services to potential clients. But where did this all start? How did we end up with the SEO world we live in today (from a webmaster standpoint seen)?

A guy named Alan Emtage, a student at the University of McGill, developed the first search engine for the Internet in 1990. This search engine was called "Archie" and was designed to archive documents available on the Internet at that time. About a year later, Gopher, an alternative search engine to Archie, was developed at the University of Minnesota. These two kinda search engines triggered the birth of what we use as search engines today.

In 1993, Matthew Gray developed very first search engine robot - the World Wide Web Wanderer. However, it took until 1994 that search engines as we know them today were born. Lycos, Yahoo! And Galaxy were started and as you probably - two of those are still around today (2005).

In 1994 some companies started experimenting with the concept of search engine optimization. The emphasis was put solely on the submission process at that time. Within 12 months, the first automated submission software packages were released. Of course it did not take long until the concept of spamming search engines was 'invented'. Some webmasters quickly realized that they could swamp and manipulate search results pages by over-submission of their sites. However - the search engines soon fought back and changed things to prevent this from happen.

Soon, search engine optimizers and the search engines started playing some sort of a "cat and mouse" game. Once a way to manipulate a search engine was discovered by the SE-optimizers they took advantage of this. The search engines subsequently revised and enhanced their ranking algorithms to respond to these strategies. It was clear very soon that mainly a small group of webmasters was abusing the search engine algorithms to gain advantage over the competition. Black Hat search engine optimization was born. The unethical way of manipulating search engine resulted in faster responses from search engines. Search engines are trying to keep the search results clean of SPAM to provide the best service to customers.

The search engine industry quickly realized that SEO (Search Engine Optimization) as an industry would not go away, and in order to maintain useful indexes, they would need to at least accept the industry. Search engines now partially work with the SEO industry but are still very eager to sort out SPAMMERS that are trying to manipulate the results.

When Google.com started to be the search engine of choice for more than 50_f the Internet users it was highly visible to anyone in the industry that search engine spamming had reached a new dimension. Google.com was so much more important to the success of a website that many webmasters solely concentrated on optimizing their sites for Google only as the payoff was worth the efforts. Again - Black Hat SEO took place, pushing down the honest webmaster and their sites in search results delivered. Google started fighting back. Several major updates to Google's algorithms forced all webmaster to adapt to new strategies. Black Hat SE-optimizers but suddenly saw something different happening. Instead of just being pushed down in the search results their websites were suddenly completely removed from the search index.

And then there was something called the "Google Sandbox" to show up in discussions. Websites either disappeared into the sandbox or new websites never made it into the index and were considered in the Google Sandbox. The sandbox seemed to be the place where Google would 'park' websites either considered SPAMMY or not to be conform with Google's policies (duplicate websites under different domain names, etc.). The Google Sandbox so far has not been confirmed or denied by Google and many webmasters consider it to be myth.

In late 2004 Google announced to have 8 billion pages/sites in the search index. The gap between Google and the next two competitors (MSN and Yahoo!) seemed to grow. However - in 2005 MSN as well as Yahoo! Started fighting back putting life back into the search engine war. MSN and Yahoo seemed to gain ground in delivering better and cleaner results compared to Google. In July of 2005 Yahoo! Announced to have over 20 billion pages/sites in the search index - leaving Google far behind. No one search engine has won the war yet. The three major search engines however are eagerly fighting for market share and one mistake could change the fortune of a search engine. It will be a rocky ride - but worth watching from the sidelines.

SEO Web Solutions

SEO is search engine optimizing. Webmasters and designers rely on these strategies, such as keyword density, link building, and tags, and so on to market their web pages. The processes increase the count of traffic visiting a single page if the web owner reaches the top of Google's, Yahoo, MSN, and other major search engines. If a page reaches a higher ranking on the search engines, the results give the owner a much greater opportunity to get traffic pouring into the web pages.

Web users do not enjoy clicking from page to page to find something they are searching for, thus SEO strategies prevents annoying these visitors by allowing them to click relevant links to their query. When a web page has relevant links, it inspires visitors to continue searching the web site, rather than clicking out and finding relevant sites that offer them what they are searching to find.

SEO then ensures that sites give visitors easy access to search engines and web links. SEO improves the odds that visitors will easy discover a site.

In SEO marketing webmasters will often request quality content writers to write SEO (Search Engine Optimizing) driven articles and keyword density content to promote their websites. Marketers want to get past Google and other major search engines algorithms to ensure their chances to reaching top rank is possible. The relevant content is written in keyword density style. These assist web owners in reaching the leading search engines internationally without fretting being tossed out, since their content is of relevancy that many visitors search for. Scripter is now writing tons of articles in an effort to utility businesses growth on the Internet.

Internet SEO marketers take other measures with SEO strategic. Link building is preferred by some web marketers to promote their websites. When links are relevant just as they are in keyword dense content, it links them to other web owners that offer similar products or services. This is a gigantic solution in increasing chances to reach the top search engines.

What An Arizona Seo Company Wants You To Know About Search Engine Optimization Services

If you're approached by an online marketing agency claiming they can get you a Top 10 search engine ranking "overnight", turn around and run away!

That's the advice a prominent Arizona SEO Company offers to business owners who are looking to get to the top of the search engine results quickly.

Search on any term in Google and you're likely to get thousands of web addresses returned to you. And, if you're like the average surfer, you'll never click below the Top 10 listings. That's because nearly 100% of anyone's search requirements are fully satisfied by web sites appearing on the first of the many search engine result pages (SERPs). If you're not on the first page, you might as well not be there at all.

The only way to earn and keep a Top 10 rating, other than buying your way to the top by bidding outrageous amounts of money for a laundry list of key words, is to use natural search engine optimization techniques.

Often called "organic search engine optimization", these natural search engine optimization techniques work because the online marketing agency, or search engine optimization firm, using them creates pages of web content that are specially designed to attract search engine "spiders".

These pages are optimized with just the right blend of targeted key words, proper HTML tags, and a page/web linking strategy that search engines look for.

Natural search engine optimization is part art and part science and a lot of online marketing experts are getting it wrong. That's why our contact at a noted Scottsdale Web Firm recommends that you check out the references that a search engine optimization firm provides before you sign any agreement.

Besides checking references, which can always be faked, ask the online marketing agency for a list of key words that they have achieved Top 10 ratings for. Then search on those terms and see if any of the web sites in the Top 10 match the reference list you were given.

Finally, our Arizona SEO Company friend says that you should beware of any search engine optimization company that cannot provide a couple of local references. After all, how good of a marketing agency can a company be if they claim to be a Scottsdale marketing company and they don't have any clients in their home town?

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) the Safe Way

To start this article, let’s make certain that everyone knows what a search engine (SE) is. This is a website that will accept an input word or phrase and search a database to give you information that matches the input information that you supplied to it. The best known SE’s are Google and Yahoo.

There are many definitions for SEO so we will try to boil them down into a simple one. The condensed definition of SEO is -- the action of using techniques to make your page(s) appeal to search engines so they will rank the page high in the search engine results pages (SERP). For additional definitions, run a Google search to get plenty of reading on the subject.

Why be concerned about the SERP ranking? This is what produces the free traffic to your site. These people found you all by themselves using the SE and they arrive at your site open to read what you have to present. They are not suspicious as they would be if they arrived at your site by clicking on a banner ad or on a Google Adwords or Adsense ad. This traffic is the life blood of your business. Readers who arrive at your site by a search engine are much easier to sell than those who come from pay per click or banner ads.
SEO has created the profession of search engine optimizer. This profession breaks down into two groups called the white hats and the black hats. (From the old western movies where the good guys wore white hats and the bad guys wore black hats).

The white hats work to create good, solid content that the SE’s are looking for. Their form of optimization is presenting the good, solid material in a format which appeals to the SE.

The black hats try to trick the SE into thinking that a site has valuable information on it by various methods and tricks.

When search engines (SE’s) first came on the scene, they were not very sophisticated and people on the Net found ways to easily trick them into giving a page a higher ranking on the SERP than the page deserved.

An early black hat trick was to fill in all the white space on the page with the page keyword in white font color (white letters on a white background). If the page was viewed on the screen, it looked normal with five or six keyword occurrences, but if you looked at the HTML, you would see the keyword on the page say 300 times. This was called “increasing keyword density” and this worked for a short time until the SE’s got smarter. When they learned to look at the background color and the font color for these 300 keywords, the SE’s started penalizing those website for cheating. The interaction between the black hat SEO’s and the search engines has developed into a “cat and mouse” game and is still on going.

Google has some of the best minds on the Net working for it and those minds are constantly working to stay ahead of the “black hats”.

It is not uncommon for a “black hat” page to be ranked well in the SERP’s one day and gone the next. This is because Google has changed its algorithm for what it considers relevant on the page. The black hat tricks that worked yesterday were discovered and the page is gone from Google or ranked so far back in the SERP that it is “dead meat”. Google has a goal to rank pages with outstanding, relevant content high on the SERP. If you create that outstanding, relevant content and develop traffic, your page will rise in the SERP rank. You are not trying to fool Google, you are building what Google wants.

I learned this information from using Site Build It (SBI) since it guides you through this part of building your page. Each time you create a page, you first preview it to see that it meets your visual requirements. Then you submit it to “Analyze It” a program that evaluates the page. Once it has completed its evaluation, it tells you what it detected that needs to be changed to make the page more acceptable to search engine spiders.
Make the changes to the page and resubmit to “Analyze It” until it gives you a report with no more suggestions. At that point, you preview the page to make certain your changes have not affected the visual presentation and it is ready to publish.

The following are a few guidelines what I learned from building retirement jobs online.com on Site Build It. If you follow these guidelines, you will build a page that is structured the way the SE’s like.

1. The web page file name should contain the primary keyword. For retirement jobs online.com this would be “retirement-jobs-online.com/keyword.html.
2. The page title should contain the primary keyword. This is the Title tag in the HTML code.
3. The page description should contain the primary keyword. This is the description meta tag.
4. The keyword list should begin with the primary keyword. This is the keywords meta tag.
5. The first heading in the body should contain the primary keyword. This will be the H1, H2, or H3 tags in HTML. “H” tags indicate a heading which will be bold font. The 1, 2, or 3 indicate the size of the font for the heading.
6. The keyword should appear in the first 90 visible characters of the text.
7. The key word should appear a moderate number of times in the body. Here is where it gets a little fuzzy. Too few occurrences will not help you and too many occurrences can be considered “keyword spamming”. I do not know the exact formula, I just do what SBI says. Quite often “Analyze It” tells me to lower the occurrences of keywords on a page.
8. The keyword should appear in the text of a text link on the page.
If you build your own website, you will need to know HTML so you can fill in the the meta tags for the title, keywords, and description. This is not hard to do and you can learn it without too much trouble. If you use SBI, you fill in text boxes in the SBI template and SBI writes the HTML to accomplish this. If you are using MS Internet Explorer, to see the HTML for these inputs, go to www.retirement-jobs-online.com and right click in the center of the page. Click View Source in the dropdown box and a Notepad window will open with the HTML code for the page. Here is what you will see near the top:

< !DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" >

< HTML >

< HEAD >

< TITLE >Retirement Jobs Online - retirement jobs online for people over 50< /TITLE >

< link rel = "alternate" type = "application/rss+xml" title = "RSS"

href = http://retirement-jobs-online.com/retirement-jobs-online.xml >

< META Name = "Description" Content = "Retirement jobs online for retirees seeking flexible work schedules" >

< META Name = "Keywords" Content = "retirement jobs online, retirement careers, entrepreneur, part time, retiree, retired" >

The

< TITLE >

tag is the page title.
The

Name="Description" Content= is the description.

The

< META Name = "Keywords" Content = is the keyword list.

You can write this HTML if you just use the tags exactly like they appear ABOVE and insert your text between the quotation marks.

Enough HTML lesson! The intent was to show you where these various inputs appeared on the page. If you build your own website, do not forget to fill these out each time you build a page.

In summary, do not chase after the latest “hot” SEO technique. Focus on creating solid content and follow a few rules on how to structure your page and no matter how Google changes its SE algorithm, your pages should continue to rank well.
Good luck with your future online endeavors.

How Do Search Engines Work?

To make easy money online you have to get high targeted traffic to your website. This is acheived by your knowledge of how to be ranking high in the search engines. The basic step is to know how search engines work.

Most searh engines have three parts:

a crawler,

an index,

and a search interface

.Let's look at each part individually to get a better understanding of them. Each part has its own role to play in the process, with all parts working together to make searches possiple.

1.The Crawler:

Also known as a "spider" or "bot", this part of the search engine wanders the web, following links and picking up information for its database. Crawlers do most of their work at times of the day when searh engines are less busy, but they typically visit frequently updated pages more often. This is something to keep in mind when you are working on your pages.

Your site's title and text(your content) are the most important thing to a crawler. The fastest way to raise your site's search engine ranking for specific key words is to implementthem into your title and your content.

2.The index.

Once the crawler has collected all that text, it is then stored and indexed. This allows people searching for key words and phrases to get results relating to what they were searching for - their search results. Most sites will incorporate rating systems such as Google Page Rank or Alexa Rankings in positioning your site. These ratings are used attempt to ensure that sites that are important receive more traffic than unimportant sites. To see this in action, go to a search engine and type in a word. You'll see some text on the page saying something like "results 1-10 of 1,234,000". This means that the search engine's index contains 1,234,000 pages it believes are related to the word you typed. If you wanted to, you could look through all these pages to find the information you're looking for.

In order to understand rating systems more thoroughly consider your own site. When you place links on your site you generally do so to increase your users understanding of the content of your site.

If every site in a particular field links to a particular site, this site is probably very important to that field and should, therefore, be listed highly in the lists of search engine results. This is the basic ideology of Google Page Ranks.

Consider again , a site that receives a great deal of traffic, it probably has some information or service that is very important to its users. Alexa ratings attempt to estimate the amount of traffic that a particular site gets and compare it to the amount of traffic that other sites get. The closer that a site is to the most trafficed site on the internet, the more likely it is to have important content if it is relevant to search query.

3.The Interface.

Search engines provide a public intrface for users who want to find information on the web. They can type the word or phrase they're searching for, and the interface will run an algorithm to find the pages relevant to their search and display them.

These algorithms are an important part of the SEO(Search Engine Optimization) business. You'll notice when the algorithms change, the rankings of your website will change with them. No two search engines have the same algorithms. They all work differently, with their unique features, and they will all respond to your website in their own way.

The most popular search engines today include Google, Yahoo, MSN, Alltheweb, and AskJeeves.

Website Promotion – Writing Articles May Be Better Than Hiring SEO Firms

It is a well-known fact that a key to obtaining a good search engine position is having a lot of other Websites link to yours. The quantity is important, and the quality is important, too. A link to your site from Amazon.com is regarded by the search engines as more important than a link from Never-Heard-Of-It.com. How can someone with a fairly new Website obtain links from other sites? Quite easily, as it happens. Write articles about your Website’s topics and publish them on the Web. It is easy to do, it provides fairly fast results, and it is less expensive and safer than if you hired a company to promote your Website for you.

Writing articles is easy. Just find a topic that relates to your Website and write what you know about it. Offer informative tips, information or other factoids that may interest the public about your topic. It need not be long; 250-500 words is just fine. At the bottom of your article, you may include a brief bio about yourself and you may include a link to your site. The next step is to search for “submit free content” in your favorite search engine. You will find many sites that accept articles from anyone who wishes to contribute. You usually publish an article by simply cutting and pasting into an online form. The Website where you publish your article shares your article with other sites that wish to republish them. Each time this happens, you’ll get another link back to your Website. It only takes a minute to publish an article, and I have seen additional links back to my site in as little as 12 hours! It works, and it’s free! The more articles you write, the more the links to your Website will propagate throughout the Internet.

But what about hiring a search engine optimization (SEO) company? Can’t you hire someone to promote your site for you? Yes, you can. These companies will modify your site to make it more search engine friendly, and they may recommend some other promotion techniques, such as pay-per-click advertising. Depending on your financial situation and the amount of free time you have, such companies may represent a good investment. Unfortunately, there are also unscrupulous Website promotion companies out there, and there seem to be more of those than legitimate ones. I got a call just last week from one such company that promised to place my Website at the very top of the first page of Google’s search results. They also promised to provide thousands of links to my site. I declined their offer, but did some research on the company. What I found is that they have done business under three different names in the last year, they’ve used hidden link, hidden code and other techniques that search engines don’t like, they’ve built Web pages that plagiarize from other sites and they’ve done work that results in their clients being blacklisted from the major search engines.

These things weigh heavily against their promise of having thousands of links that point to my site. I see no reason to pay thousands of dollars for a service that may obtain links for me or may get my site blacklisted on the major search engines. I’d rather save my money and obtain the links myself by writing and publishing articles. It’s safe, fast, and inexpensive. And it works.

Get a top 10 ranking without paying a cent

If there's one thing that Google loves, it's content. Done right, a content rich website is almost guaranteed to rank highly. But how to get that content? You can write it yourself, but that takes a lot of time. You can pay an SEO copywriter to write it for you, but that takes a lot of money. If only there was another option...

What if you could get your content for free? And not just a little bit of content; a lot! What if you could get an almost unlimited supply of keyword rich, expertly written content, specific to your subject matter, absolutely free of charge? Would you snap it up and upload to your site in an instant? Of course you would! Well here's the good news: you can! Read on to find out how you can get a top ten ranking in the search engines without paying a single cent...

Yes, content gives you a great ranking

Content is king. This is widely acknowledged as fact, but if you need further convincing, consider the following two points:

Point 1 - In Google's own words, one of the keys to a high ranking is to "create a useful, information-rich site" (from “Google Information for Webmasters” - http://www.google.com/webmasters/guidelines.html).

Point 2 - Google insider, codenamed 'Google Guy', advocates a list 26 steps to building a high ranking site. Step 5 of the list says, "build one page of content and put online per day at 200-500 words" (from Brett Tabke's "26 steps to 15k a Day" - http://www.searchengineworld.com/misc/guide.htm, advocated by Google Guy in a WebMasterWorld QA session - http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum30/29727-6-10.htm).

But why does content give you a great ranking?

I won't go into any further detail about IF Google loves content. I will, however, briefly explain WHY. Google's love affair with content is based on two key attractions:

1) Google loves sites with a lot of content because it assumes they provide a lot of useful information. And remember, that's the whole reason Google exists - to help people find useful information. The more helpful Google's results, the more traffic (and revenue) it gets.

2) Google loves sites that have a lot of links pointing to them because this means other webmasters hold your site in high regard, and Google assumes this means the content is useful. And naturally, if you create a useful site, other webmasters will link to it because this makes them useful to their visitors (thereby developing site loyalty), and they gain credibility and authority because they're associated with you.

So how can you get free content for your website?

Three words: 'free reprint articles'. There are hundreds of thousands of people out there writing high quality, helpful, informative articles on virtually every topic imaginable, then giving these article away to any webmaster who wants to publish them on a website. In exchange for the article, the author asks only that you retain the author bio at the end, complete with all links (e.g. "Glenn Murray is an SEO Copywriter and Article Submission Specialist...).

To find free content for your website, simply visit any one of hundreds of 'article banks' on the Internet such as http://www.ezinearticles.com, http://www.goarticles.com, or http://www.articleblast.com. Browse or search for the subject you're interested in, then take the article(s) for free. There is absolutely no charge. Some of these sites will even send a regular stream of articles direct to your website (using RSS).

Alternatively, you can sign up to any number of article distribution lists and get articles delivered direct to your email inbox. Again, it's absolutely free! Some of the better known distribution lists include http://groups.yahoo.com/group/article_announce, http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/Free-Content, and http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Free-Reprint-Articles.

TIP: The article banks and distribution lists mentioned above are just the tip of the iceberg. There are hundreds more - just do a search for "free reprint articles", "article submission", "article submission site", "submit article", "article submit site", "free articles", or "free content". You may even find a site or list which only deals in articles relating to your particular subject matter.

Why is it free?

Why are these authors giving their articles away? Because it helps the author's own search engine ranking. It's a promotional activity known as 'article PR'. As explained above, Google loves sites with lots of links pointing to them. Every time their article submission is published, the author gets another link to their website. In fact, if the article is really good, it may be published hundreds of times. And each time, it's another link to the author's website. Put simply, article submission is a writer's free pass to the top of the search engines. (In this sense, the "PR" in article PR stands for PageRank.)

Furthermore, like traditional public relations, article PR also conveys a sense of authority because your articles are widely published. And because you're proving your expertise and freely dispensing knowledge, your readers will trust you and will be more likely to remain loyal to you. (In this sense, the "PR" in article PR stands for Public Relations.)

How do I know if the quality is good?

It's a process of natural selection. The better the article submission, the more often it will be published, so it's in the author's interest to write and submit articles of the highest quality. Of course, this doesn't always happen, but in most cases, you'll be reviewing the articles before you post them anyway, so if you discover one that's not up to scratch, don't use it.

In time, you'll become familiar with the authors who consistently put out good quality content - you may even find enough of them that you don't need to go looking for content from anyone else...

Where do I put the free content?

Most people put the articles in an 'Articles' or 'Resources' section on their website, but you can put them anywhere you like.

How much free content should I use?

As much as you want or as little as you want. It all depends on your needs and the needs of your audience. If your audience expects that at least some of your site is original content, then give it to them.

But what about the duplicate content issue?

It's not an issue!

There's a lot of a talk about how Google penalizes duplicate content. The theory is that when the majority of the content on two separate webpages (on different sites) is the same, the one with the higher PR will be shown and the other one will not.

Whether or not this theory is true is still a hot topic in search engine circles, but regardless, it doesn't affect people publishing free-reprint articles. When you publish the article, just make sure you have unique content around it. Generally, it's enough to have your own unique introduction to the page (which may be common to all pages), and your own navigation elements, headers, footers, sidebars, logos, images, etc.

Conclusion

Free reprint articles are a great way for you to achieve a high ranking. And you don't have to pay a cent! So what are you waiting for?

Happy reprinting!

Keyword Specific Ads Equals Higher Search Engine Rankings

Keywords are an essential component of producing a web site. These are the words which the search engines use to help categorize and rank your pages. For instance, if your website is about 'writing articles' then your keywords could include 'writing', 'articles', 'article writing' and so on.

The advice from many web designers and search engine optimizers has been to find as many keywords as you can. They advise you to search for keywords using a variety of online tools and software programs which can identify leading keywords. At first sight this seems attractive, but it actually defies logic.

Let's take a look at the aim of a search engine. Its job is to track down pages that meet the specific search term that a web surfer has typed in. The more closely the pages it serves up match the search term, the better it is for users. Search engines need to be as accurate as possible in delivering the right material to their users. Otherwise the web surfer goes elsewhere.

Now imagine you are a search engine algorithm – the mathematical program which calculates the probability of any web page matching the search term typed in. If the page has hundreds, or thousands of keywords you'll be a bit confused.

For instance, is this web page about 'article writing', or is it about 'feature writing for journalists'. They are different things. You'll end up knowing the page is relevant but not that relevant. So you rank it down the bottom.

But what if the page only has the keyword 'article writing' several times? You're absolutely clear the page is about article writing and so you rank it highly. Admittedly, it's not quite as simple as this. But this is the principle of search engine technology. It is trying to find the most relevant pages that match the search term.

What this means for Internet marketers is that you need separate pages for each keyword. Focus each page on each individual keyword. Use the keyword in headings, sub-headings, the page text, the page title tag and in the Meta tags.

Avoid having pages which contain several key-words as that simply confuses the search engines and lowers your rankings. So forget the advice to have hundreds or thousands of keywords. Go for single pages that match single keywords and you will find your page traffic increase.

This trick also works for Google Adwords. Each advert should apply to just a handful of keywords - you get much greater click through rates and therefore cheaper advertising when you only have a couple of keywords per advert. If you have hundreds of keywords you'll find you'll get greater results by having keyword specific ads, rather than one advert with hundreds of keywords. So go against the advice of filling your pages and adverts with keywords. Go specific.

Seo For Flash Websites-is It Possible?

If there is one tool to create astonishing websites, that’s Macromedia Flash. However, it is not that easy to learn and is difficult to use. But the results are incredible: web pages that mesmerize us with special effects, including image and sound, animations that make us feel like we are in a theatre, interactive applications and so much more.

Inexperienced online entrepreneurs ask web design companies to create Flash websites. Many of these firms are indeed able to design an amazing website, but how many are able to optimize its pages for the search engines? What about the other obvious difficulties: long loading time, firewalls that block Flash, lack of usability – and the statistics that show more than 80 percents of online users prefer non-flash sites? Considering that search engines cannot read Flash, what are the chances for such a website to be indexed anyway? Ergo what’s the point in having an amazing website if it’s difficult to use and no one can find it?

A well designed Flash website is beautiful, not so difficult to browse but very difficult to optimize for the search engines because it lacks scannable content. Fortunately, difficult is not synonymous with impossible.

To get higher rankings for a Flash website you should start with META tags and linking strategies.

Write proper META tags for the opening page: title, description, keywords. Use the most important keywords in the title tag and the description. That’s all the on-page SEO you can do for a Flash site. It doesn’t sound much, does it? It is not. Because many search engines disregard these tags and look for content. While visitors can read the content of a Flash site, for the search engine spiders it’s a blank space. So the second thing to do to boost SERP for a Flash website is to build link popularity. To boost link popularity you need to link with websites that have a Page Rank 4 or higher. In time, this may bring the desired results. The importance of text links is, in this case, obvious. A text link is generally keyword rich, so search engines will know, by reading the link, what topic is treated on a website. Submit the website to directories and try to get one-way links by submitting articles and press releases.

Another method to boost SERP placements is the page re-direct. As META tag redirects are blacklisted, you might wonder what else is left. Well, Google allows redirects and using a 301-status code means that a site has been permanently moved. You could easily create a plain html page, respecting all the ethic SEO standards, and then redirect it to the Flash site. Avoid creating layers of text that should be delivered to the spiders instead of Flash. Although you do provide unique content, search engines might mistake the method for cloaking and ban your website.

That’s all the SEO you can do for an entirely Flash website when you don’t want to develop an HTML version.

Sites that are partially Flash and partially HTML have more chances to achieve high SERP placements, as they can be easily optimized.
